“Once you’re there, you won’t want to leave”
This lake, a big 1000-hectare mountain-water ‘fjord’, offers some incredible spots.
- The Sarrans Dam, once the largest dam in Europe.
- Upstream from the dam, the Laussac peninsula awaits you.
Explore a lesser-known side of the Truyère river valley… So many things to learn, so many secrets in that water!
When the Sarrans dam was emptied in 2014, various hidden treasures were revealed: the Tréboul and Laussac bridges, villages, farms, petrified trees, and more. Go and see them for yourself and share the memories.
Every day, with the famiy or alone, there are so many things to see, do and explore by the water.
The best advice we can give:
‘Spend more time than you planned exploring the lake, go further along the trails, see the Turlande rock, walk along the dam…’
It’ll surprise you!
The pretty winding roads that lead you to the Laussac peninsula, surrounded by the peaks of the Monts du Cantal and Aubrac, are one of the most beautiful sights Aveyron has to offer.
Laussac is a protected area that one visits on foot; stroll around the village’s pretty little streets until you reach the chapel built in the year 1000, the last remains of a monastery founded by Saint Gausbert. This is a really special place: the tranquility and the gentle banks of the Sarrans Lake are not to be missed.
