The Truyère: its source in
the Margeride mounts - Lozère.
The Truyère finds its source in the Margeride mounts and pours into the Lot at Entraygues.
Along this journey of 170 km, it has dug its bed in the solid granite and formed many deep gorges.
Thanks to its profile, the Truyère is one of the best rivers in the Massif Central for dams.
So, the electricity board exploits the Truyère with two very big dams in our area: Sarrans and Labarthe (a dam feeding the underground plant in Brommat).

The Truyère
This plant is built in a hole 31 metres deep, 22 metres wide and 80 metres long .
It produces electricity, which is then conveyed to the junction station in Rueyres.

The dam of Sarrans
This dam blocks the bed of the Truyère holding back 35 km of water.
It was opened in 1934.
The dam is of the "gravity" type and is anchored to a rock cliff called "La roche Perdrière" 150 metres high.
The retained water forms the biggest reservoir on the Truyère-Lot river system.
